| Norman Fay Cycles Limited Founder: - Norman Fay Senior After 13 years working in the bicycle trade repairing bicycles, building wheels, and all other aspects of the trade, Norman started the business in 1964 and moved to 109 South Eldon Street, South Shields in 1965 With the help of his wife Marion and his friend and then employee Ron Houston, Norman enjoyed a successful few years working hard and established Norman Cycles Limited, selling bicycles, repairing bicycles, building and enameling lightweight frames, some of which were exported to the USA. After a compulsory purchase order in 1979, he was compelled to re-establish the business in Dean Road, South Shields, taking over a long-established bicycle and hardware store. Due to severe competition from the Far East the manufacturing side of the business was closed down in 1984. Marion and Norman then took an interest in cycling history and the start of the cycle trade in Coventry and still enjoy cycling on their vintage bicycles. The Business is now in the hands of Norman Junior, with a little help from his parents. The current focus of the bicycle side of the business is selling folding andrecumbent cycles to enthusiastic commuting and touring cyclists. |
